What Happens When 40 Drag Kings Take the Stage?

drag king culture Jun 11, 2025

There’s a kind of magic that happens when a person lets themselves be seen—not just seen, but celebrated. Multiply that by 40 and put it onstage, and you get Drag Kingdom.

Tomorrow night, The Red Rattler in Marrickville will be filled with thunderous applause, joy, swagger, and something deeper—a celebration of identity, courage, and joy.

Drag Kingdom is the most loved Drag King show in the world—not because of sparkle (though there’s plenty), or fully expressed dance moves (also plenty), but because every King on that stage has been through something to get there.

For some, it’s their very first solo performance. For others, it’s the next step in a growing creative journey. Many have never worn makeup before Drag Kinging. Some thought dancing was a no-go. Most never imagined they’d one day be strapping on a packer and lip-syncing their heart out to a screaming crowd.

And yet, here they are.

What connects them?

They’ve all been through Kings of Joy—the Drag King community where it’s safe to explore, experiment, and express. Whether they’re Gold Stars (first-timers), All Stars (return performers), or flying solo, each King brings their own flavour to the stage.

Tomorrow night you’ll see butch swagger, camp chaos, heartfelt vulnerability, and electric joy. You’ll hear songs that make you cry, laugh, and dance in your seat. You’ll witness what happens when we say yes to who we are.

This is not just a show. It’s a movement.

And this one’s going to be unforgettable.

Tickets are moving fast—don’t miss out.
